Connie Lee
Connie Lee joined in August 2008 as a reporter for KBC-TV’s Asian American Network News on Mondays at 7:30 PM. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago and holds a degree in English, Cultural and Media Studies. While in college, she interned as a web producer at WGN-TV in Chicago, Illinois. She hopes that her work in broadcast media will reach out to the Asian-American youth of the Midwest.

Stefanie Bae
Stefanie Bae graduated from Purdue University in 2003 with a BA in Business Management; She also double minored in Psychology and Communications. Stefanie was recognized for her exceptional presentation skills and public speaking ability by professors from her three chosen fields of study. As such, Stefanie was recruited to join the debate team, intern for various positions and become a teacher’s assistant. During her time at Purdue she was active with the university’s Asian American community by participating in the Asian American Association (AAA), the Korean American Students Association (KASA), as well as being involved in University sponsored fashion shows in 2002 and 2003.
After graduation, Stefanie interned at KWKB-TV. KWKB-TV is located in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Nielsen Designated Market Area (DMA), a top 100 market in the United States, and is an affiliate of The CW Television Network (formerly The WB Television Network). Her time at KWKB-TV allowed her the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles where she attended The WB’s Fall Launch Party open only to affiliate stations. There she met many celebrities such as John Cho (A Korean actor that starred in Harold and Kumar), John Stamos, Bob Saget, David Boreanez, Bill Bellamy, Joshua Jackson, and many others from The WB’s lineup of programs. Stefanie said, “I was literally in awe of being able to have such a wonderful experience and meet so many celebrities, it was a dream come true!”
In 2006 Stefanie joined KM Communications, Inc. (Owner of WOCH KBC-TV) as Director of Personnel. With Stefanie’s background in presentations and public speaking, in 2007 she was recruited to anchor KBC-TV’s English language Asian American News (AAN). Stefanie presently maintains her position as Director of Personnel of KM and anchor of AAN. According to Stefanie, her most memorable moment working for AAN was representing the station for Chicago’s local Emmy Awards. She says, “When I was asked to host the EMMY AWARDS in Chicago for our station I was able to meet Linda Yu, an Asian American, who I admire for her success in journalism and is an anchor for ABC7 in Chicago. I was so nervous and excited to meet her. I got the chance to interview her and was she so incredibly nice. She even gave me tips! It was an amazing experience.” She also received kudos from WGN-TV’s anchor Steve Saunders. Of Steve Saunders Stefanie said, “Steve was watching me work and told me I was doing a great job. It made me blush a little and I had to tell him to stop watching me! It is a little nerve wracking being watched by respected journalists that I have watched on TV in my hometown.”
Stefanie will also host and report for a new local Asian American Entertainment show “THE SLANT” www.theslant.tv currently under development for KBC-TV.

Kristine Ostil
Kristine Ostil serves as a reporter for KBC-TV’s Asian American Network News on Mondays at 7:30 PM. She recently joined the station in September 2008. Previously, she worked as the editor in chief for Chicago Flame, University of Illinois at Chicago’s independent newspaper and interned with WBBM-TV CBS 2 (2006-2007). Ostil is also the 2006 Bernard Shaw Award recipient. She was born in Philippines and moved to Chicago when she was five years old. Ostil graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in International Studies She enjoys volunteering for community organizations and spending time with her family.

From our transmitter located high above the John Hancock Center, we are serving the Chicago metropolitan area and parts of Indiana. AAN TV, which is broadcasted on channel 41, currently airs a 30-minute news segment every Tuesday. Soon, we are on AT&T’s U-Verse network. The Asian American Network News is the only English news segment in the Midwest that reports on issues and events affecting Asian Americans.
